Our Policies for Regional Contribution

The University seeks to promote regional vitality though the study and application of knowledge of management and economics, being an institution open to the community, and for the community.

Three (3) Operational Policies

  1. The University will seek to obtain information on various regional issues, and work together with the community to solving existing issues, and to lay groundworks for tackling anticipated future issues.
  2. The University will propose policy recommendations, with strong theoretical bases and practical applications, in order to make improvements to community as well as to solve societal issues. 
  3. The University will foster opportunities and avenues for collaborative work with local communities, in its efforts to continue to play a key role in the region.

Four Pillars of Regional Contribution

Aomori Public University approaches regional contribution through the following: Education, Research, Consultation and Nurturing. As a knowledge base in Aomori City, the University collaborates and cooperates with other universities, local governments, entrepreneurs, financial institutions and other regional organisations.

Specific Examples

Education and Research

1.Enhancement of Public Lectures

  • Promote public lectures using grants received from Aomori Foundation
  • Conduct public lectures according to the needs of the community

2.Promotion of Regional Activities through Education

  • Hold seminars and conferences to gather and share information in order to tackle societal issues

3.Promotion of Research for Regional Contribution

  • A three-way collaboration between industry, academia, and government to conduct research on regional development
  • Joint research with the Aomori City Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration Council, on the “Economic Effects brought about by Universities”
  • Establish mechanisms for the strategic prioritisation of issues, and to support studies being carried out by faculty and research staff on regional contribution

Consultation and Nurturing

1.The Practise of Interconnecting Regions

  • Introduce initiatives based on the four pillars to local bodies, governments and organisations with the aim to raise awareness of the University as a knowledge base and to impress upon them our capacity to make meaningful contributions to the local community and to tackle local issues.

2.Holding Town Meetings

  • The University regularly hold briefing sessions to demonstrate our efforts to address regional issues, discuss research results. This also doubles as an information sharing event with governments and participating organisations.

3.Support Entrepreneurship, Start-ups, Business Innovation

  • The University works in tandem with Aomori City, and corporate partners to create a framework to support young entrepreneurs, start-ups, business innovations and management reforms.

Improvement of Regional Contribution System and Working Environment

1.Enhancement of the system and function of the Regional Collaboration Centre

  • Integration of the Regional Research Centre and the Regional Collaboration Centre and to form a new centralised Regional Collaboration Centre

2.Create an environment where students and faculty members can easily participate in regional contribution

  • Research on the development of a volunteer registration system utilising ICT, and setting up volunteer user page
  • Encourage university staff and students to participate in regional activities such as attending Town Planning and Community Development Council meetings/events organised by Civic Activity Groups

3.Enhancement of public relations activities

  • Dissemination of information about university activities, student activities etc. on the Web, brochure review, press release, and TV advertisement

4.Promote the utilisation of university facilities, human resources, etc.

  • Opening up of our facilities to local bodies, governments, and corporates users, active ACAC lending to citizens, routine visits by faculty members to local bodies and corporations.
